How to capture more open house leads and follow up immediately with Mailchimp Subscribe

If you’re like most Realtors, you know how to turn on the charm, add value to conversations, and collect contact information from attendees at your open houses.

The hard part is making sense of illegible handwriting, entering or importing the information into your CRM or email service provider, and following up—unless you charm (or pay) someone else to do it for you. 😍

But it doesn't have to be like that.

With the help of Mailchimp Subscribe, you can turn your tablet (iOS or Android) into a beautiful, branded sign-up form. Open house attendees tap in their contact info, and it's pushed to your Mailchimp account. You can follow up immediately with a welcome email or series.

If you have WiFi at your event, your information will sync, and your email will send like magic. However, if you don't have WiFi, it will happen when you do connect to the Internet.

Mailchimp Subscribe offers an elegant solution to grow your list on the go, and it helps you follow up like a pro. In today's post, I want to show you how to set yourself up for open house success with Mailchimp Subscribe.

Let's dive in, shall we?

Before you get started

To use Mailchimp Subscribe, you'll need to set up a Mailchimp account and an audience where you will add subscribers.

Before you download the app to your tablet, I recommend having a couple of items handy to design your signup form:

  • Your logo, or image you'd like to use on your signup form*
  • Your brand colors (RGB or hex values)

*Add these files to your tablet via email, Mail Drop, or another method.

Now you're ready to download your app:

You can add your new subscribers to an audience in Mailchimp, but you can also add them to an audience group. If you plan on following up with a welcome email to subscribers who sign up at a specific open house, this is also how you (pre-)segment them from the rest of your list.

Create a group called open houses and then add your open houses by address. Also, in the case of this group, we want to hide it from our signup form because it's for internal use. We'll assign our open house attendees to this group inside Mailchimp Subscribe.

Here's a quick tutorial on how to create a hidden group in Mailchimp.

Please note, you must create the group name and add the open house address you'd like to use BEFORE you create your signup form on Mailchimp Subscribe.

Customize your form on iPad

Here's a quick tutorial on how to customize your signup form on an iPad.

Please note, if you plan to use groups, you'll have to create a new form for each open house. It only takes a few minutes and is well worth it.

Set up your follow-up email automation

Here's where we get a little fancy.

According to Mailchimp, "Automations help you get things done while you get other things done."

So, in this case, you'll host your open house while Mailchimp sends follow-up emails to attendees. Sounds good, right?

Here's a tutorial on how to set up your welcome email automation in Mailchimp.

Please note, you can replicate automations with a single click of your mouse, and then change the segment to your next open house address.

Now what?!

Take a deep breath, dive in, and set yourself up for open house success. If you'd feel more comfortable with an in-person tutorial or would like me to set this up for you, I'm happy to take the wheel. But there's no harm trying it yourself first.

Good luck!

P.S. Someone asked why I used a placeholder image instead of a video of me. I recorded this in the wee hours, and no one needs or wants to see that. My sleepy croaky drawl is enough. 😴
